oi, dickhead!

mood: in the mood for drunken ramblings...
state of mind: a little drunken anger.
tune: iTunes random - plenty of camp tunes in the mix however.

there's a change in the wind...

i'm not much of an activist, but this makes me ecstatic on the inside.

in the census in which we all were just counted, it is notable that all same sex couples that declared themselves as married couples will be counted as thus.

having learnt that same sex couples that placed a tick in the box that says "married" would be only counted as "de facto couple", a gay sydney couple sought to protest at the austraian bureau of statistics (ABS) office, refusing to leave until due recognition was forthcoming. the police subsequently removed them from the building.

in discussions with the with the couple later, head of census mr paul williams agreed that given reforms overseas, whereby australians in same sex relationships have been given the choice to legally marry, the counting of such data would be of historical interest and would better represent the australian demographic.

i am particularly pleased that the head of census refused to regard the current government's opinion on same sex marriage as a valid consideration when deciding to collect and publish data regarding the australian cohort. it is great to see that the ABS can see beyond the government's narrow views, and that ignoring what is blatantly obvious is not in the national interest. to any forward-thinking human being, such as mr williams, this goverment is clearly championing an outmoded ideaology, one that will soon be belly up.

how dare they capitalise on a vulnerable public and use a fear of difference to forward their own motives of prejudice against such individuals. "such forces include the childish desire to erase differences in humanity and to stamp similarity and identity on everyone around us" said Justice (of the high court of australia) Michael Kirby at a recent public lecture. with another empowering blow, Justice Kirby furthered his view by stating that "prejudices and dislike will, ultimately, only recede when gay people themselves break the spell of silence and stand up to be counted"

and that is exactly what i intend to do. i never, and will never, make an attempt to hide or downplay my sexuality. i might not be a raving camp queen, but i am as gay as gay can be, that is my only orientation. many people whom come upon me shall get to know me, and those that get to know me, will get to know that i am gay. it is not an advertised fact, but it is a fact nonetheless, and as i am proud of myself, i am proud of this facet of who i am. Justice Kirby is an exceedingly great man, and i shall not let such a figure down.

so it comes as little surprise that the government now looks set to introduce legislation into the house banning of adoption of overseas children by same sex couples. federal attorney general mr phillip ruddock said that "the government does not wish to leave itself exposed to a situation where a state or territory, for the purpose of making a political point domestically, would seek to prioritise same sex couples ahead of heterosexual couples for the purposes of overseas adoption". a politcal point? um, i think it's called "equal rights", dickhead! apparently the government believes it is best for children to have "the care and affection of both a mother and father". hence the $4000 baby bonus i suppose, applicable to single mothers among others - yeah real strong on that belief dickhead. i might also make mention to the fact that a gay man or lesbian can still adopt a child from overseas as a single. a remarkable degree of hypocrisy in your politics mr ruddock.

so we have a government, led by a menzies / bush jr wannabe, championing an idealogy that expired sometime in the age of aquarius. big deal. they're here now, but won't be forever. keep being counted kids, cos some time soon it will be all swept aside, i am certain. it is my firm belief that at some point in the next 15 years or so i shall enjoy all of the marital and child-bearing rights (should i choose to exercise them) that almost all other australians take for granted.

cheers to that!

I think what is more fucked is 5/7 High Court Justices are from a conservative background, and if government statute law was to be challenged you would have a very hard time because to challenge doctrine of precendent you need all 7 justices sitting.

I want to go back to the days of the French Revolution...

In terms of Justice Kirby's view of speaking out, I prefer to remain quiet but if people wants to impose their punitive ideas and practices on me I will definitely throw around a few expletives. I prefer to let people to get to know me, if they want to know if I'm gay I will tell them the truth. Most people I have gotten to know and have gotten to know me are now 'fighting' on my side - I don't know if they're doing it for the sake of saving face but I think if people see you for the kind of person you are and the way you think they will be more inclined to stand by you. However, what I'm not too pleased about is all these 'straight' guys that have sexual liaisons with other males and think that gays should not deserve acceptance. I mean seriously, 'being gay' means a lot of things but sucking cock is sucking cock... then again humans are supposedly inherently hypocritical.

P.S. I don't mean to spam your blog but I love reading blogs especially those that express ideas and opinions about certain things rather than the whole 'I did this', 'he's a slut', or 'I'm going to cut myself' kind of blog.

anonymous, thanks for the post. it's always sobreing to recall just how difficult it is to change that is by all standards of human rights execrable, and belongs in the era of the salem witch trials.

glad to hear your view. i think we are along the same lines. no need to wear it one the sleeve, but when a question along the lines of "do you have a girlfriend?" comes up, i know it is time they knew.

as for the "straight guys" you speak of, i've not had the misfortune to have gotten that close to any such person. although if i did happen to hear of one, i am certain he would be met with a twisted wry look from me.

ps. your post is certainly not spam. i appreciate the input. if you linked to an ad for cheap fake rolexes, i would take issue. hehe

How about penis implants and Viagra? I find it entertaining how many people emphasise the need of a big penis or at least being able to last the distance... but that's enough said.

Another thing that really annoys me about gays is the whole 'straight acting' thing. I absolutely hate that term! I would prefer the word 'masculine'. I don't think being masculine is an act, or 'being gay' as a feminine disposition... I know you can challenge the whole masculine thing using pederasty as an argument, but as a gay I think you like guys because they suck cock and/or fuck guys in the ass, or because they have a penis! However, I think that is best left in the private sphere (even if I love talking about sex).

thanks anonymous. that brings to mind a recent radio ad i heard, you may have also. apparently, all women want a man who can go all night - they would take that over something over and done with any day of the week, hands down.

spoke to a few of my female friends about that last week, and they were quite adamant that more often than not, they don't want sex that goes on for hours and hours. they would generally prfer something a little quicker than that, and sometiems a LOT quicker than that. who do you know that has one night or more a week that they can set aside for just having sex, with little or no sleep?

disgusting ad, pandering at the insecurites of men rather than the whims of women.

as for straight acting: unfortunately, sometimes it is an act. but yes, i agree wholeheartedly, masculine would be a much better temrm. unless of course, the alternatives, feminine and neutral, would be deemed offensive to be labelled upon a male.

thanks again.

Hehehehe. No need to thank me... I think you're just doing that to try and get me to reveal my identity. Anyhow, that I hear that nasal spray thing on the radio all the time - it's usually around peak hour traffic time or when you're picking up the school kids because maybe that's saying something to all the parents who aren't getting enough, or the older tradies that can get a house up in an instant but not their penises.

That whole girls want it quicker thing - all of my friends pretty much agree, but just as long as it isn't that quick because they do like to get off. I mean the last time my friend had an all-nighter I slept over at her boyfriend's house too and I didn't get sleep. Then she complained how sore her muscles were and started to say that she didn't want sex for another month... mind you it was only 1.5 weeks ago.

Also, the offensive thing about the feminine constructions of 'masculinity' is really starting to cause a rift among males. You have your metrosexuals and you have your Yobbos at opposing ends of the spectrum, and those that don't really care off of the radar. Gender neutrality is something that is definitely being challenged particularly when you look at consumerism and western societies. I wrote a short essay on it and I'm not going to repost it, but the good thing was that I got offered to do that lecture next year because my paper was really, really, really good and got a high distinction, and I do have a keen interest in sex and gender studies. Hehehe.

By the way do you watch Grey's Anatomy? I seriously love the show and the more I watch it the more I want to become a doctor But, the only thing that is turning me off is that I don't really like touching random people and the sight of blood especially lots of it freaks me out, so imagine me trying to cut somebody open and I would be totally hyperventilating!

thanks anonymous. i am not after your identity. if i was i would ask for it :p

no, i don't watch grey's anatomy. not much of a tv kid, excet maybe B&B, the news and the simpsons sometimes.

if you want to be a doctor, really want to be a doctor, you will just do what has to be done. i have done advanced chemistry and maths, the gamsat and a BSc to get to this stage for fuck's sake. if it has to be done, it WILL be done.
